Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Victor Castillo Reporting: In 2003 the National Council of Ageing (NCA) was officially opened to ensure the continued involvement in and contribution of the Elder Person to society and creating an environment of independence, dignity and integrity.
Ever since, NCA has joined hands with other countries to observe October 1st, as International Day of Older Persons.
As part of this year’s observation NCA and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will be launching the NCA’s National Strategic Plan on Thursday October 1st at the Belize Best Western Biltmore Plaza starting at 10:00am.
Minister of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez will be providing the morning’s main address. The NCA’s strategic plan addresses the needs of the aging Belizean population through six strategic objectives and calls for the cooperation between all sectors of our society.
As part of the launching of the NCA’s Strategic Plan, PAHO will be facilitating an overview and discussion on the recently adopted Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons.
Invited guests who will address the forum include Lupita Chaves Cervantes who is a member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary of Costa Rica and has worked extensively on the Convention for Human Rights of Older Persons in Costa Rica.
