“BEL assures the public that the Company remains committed to ensuring that it provides continuous service to its customers.
Earlier today, the BEWU announced to the media that it would enter into strike action, effective tomorrow.
As an essential service provider, BEL has activated its contingency plan to mitigate any possible impact of a strike. Over the last year, the Company has responded to two previous incidents of illegal strike action that were staged by the union.
In both instances, service to customers was not interrupted. BEL will endeavour to maintain quality service despite the threats issued by the BEWU. BEL remains focused on its mission “to provide reliable electricity at the lowest sustainable cost, stimulate national development and improve the quality of life in Belize” and will do all it can to continuously deliver service to the country.”
