By Charles Leslie Jr.
My wife and I have a 5 year old daughter that is attending the Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary School in the capital city of Belmopan, Belize.
We are proud that the faculty works really hard to give our children a great education. Unfortunately, the school does not get the funding it needs to keep up with maintenance of class rooms. This is the reason we have personally stepped in to assist in any way we can in helping the school raise funds for necessary, and in some cases, critical repairs and upgrades, so that we, parents and teachers, can assure that our children are in a classroom conducive to their education.
One elementary classroom, in particular, is in desperate need of some repairs to a damaged wall, which, if not addressed promptly can turn into a major problem for the entire structure. The wall has been infested with termites. We have been able to put a temporary stop to them, however, we were advised that if that section of the wall is not repaired promptly, due to the location of the building and it being made of wood, the termites will come back and can spread to the rest of the building.
Therefore, we take this opportunity to ask you to please help us raise the funds necessary to do this repair, and save the school from potentially having to do major repairs or rebuild the entire structure in the future. Repairing this damaged wall will allow the children to be in a more comfortable classroom where they can focus on learning, instead of having to worry about a termite-infested wall that can potentially collapse in on them, and also put a stop to other insects that have been coming into the classroom due the holes in the damaged wall.
As parents and concerned citizens, we thank you in advance for any assistance you can give. All monies raised will go to Principal Martinez. A contractor is ready to do the repairs after school is closed for the summer vacation, and this would allow the teachers and children to come back to a repaired classroom wall, which we are certain will make them feel happy.
Thank you in advance for your time and your contribution.
