Thursday, October 1st, 2015. BMG: With the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) and its employees coming to terms on a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) yesterday, the Prime Minister may have to work his magic again to satisfy the requests of Social Security Board’s (SSB) employees who are demanding that a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) be signed before General Elections.
SSB’s workers are said to be thinking of taking immediate action if their request is not granted, prepared to go on strike as early as Friday, reports suggest. That is for two main reasons the employees say.
Reason number one is because if government were to change in the upcoming election, the CBA would definitely be delayed and the second reason is that if the current administration remains in office after election, they would be in no great hurry to address demands of employees.
The employees are represented by the Christian Workers Union CWU), headed by its President, Audrey Matura-Shepherd.
