Friday, October 23, 2015.  BMG: State-run electricity providers Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) says it is today distributing care packages to 165 families in Belize City affected this past weekend’s floods, supported by the BEL logoCommunity Policing Unit of the Belize Police Department, Eastern Division, and Unity Presbyterian School.

The police helped identify certain families around the Old Capital who are in need of aid, while families of students attending the school on Antelope Street Extension are including in the donation.

These care packages contain toiletries, cleaning agents and snacks.

The company notes that its beneficiaries in this program are residents of communities with a high rate of hazardous and improper or illegal electrical connections. It wants to reach out to these persons on how to safely connect to BEL supply.

BEL is encouraging Belizeans who cannot afford the cost of a service entrance but can afford to pay their monthly bill, to apply for BEL’s Connecting Homes Program to qualify for a free service entrance connection. Senior citizens are also reminded to register for the Golden Citizen’s Bill Pay Program.

The company thanked its partners for their support as well as employees who worked tirelessly during the flood crisis, to disconnect hazardous electricity connections and subsequently safely restoring power supply to these sensitive areas.
