Tuesday, October 27, 2015.  Aaron Humes Reporting: The Belize Training and Employment Centre was established last October under the aegis of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) in vlcsnap-2015-10-27-19h01m20s022order to develop and introduce industry-specific training for unemployed or under-employed Belizeans to find jobs quickly.

One year later, four in every five BTEC graduates are gainfully employed and their skills are even more highly sought. As the one-year mark of BTEC passes, its Training and Recruitment Officer, Vanessa Johnston, reflects on its successes and achievements.

The academy has trained more than 500 persons in entry-level skills for business process outsourcing, tourism and other fields. Approximately 80% of these are now employed.

vlcsnap-2015-10-27-19h01m05s121BTEC Manager Christine Smith unveiled the latest program targeted to reach an under-represented portion of society – home healthcare givers for senior citizens over the age of 60.

The new program kicks off shortly and like all BTEC programs is free of charge. For this program, applicants must take a pre-test on Basic English, math and health science at the Centre. Programs will also be expanded in the areas of tourism, business process outsourcing and other high-demand industries.
