Monday, November 2nd, 2015. Chrisbert Garcia Reporting: 23-year-old Jermaine Sutherland of Maxboro Village in the Belize District, was arrested and charged for several offenses after he attempted to rob Johnson Distributors in Punta Gorda (PG) on Friday, October 30th.
Owned by a well-known resident of PG, the distributor is an outlet of Bowen and Bowen located on North Street in PG, just down the street from the town’s police station. The close proximity from authorities, however, didn’t deter Sutherland’s evening plan of armed robbery.
Around 5:32 that evening, police were alerted and visited the distributor where officers saw the culprit laying on the ground, being restrained by civilians and his Austria Glock pistol was handed over to them by 61-year-old retired police Sergeant, Joseph Martinez.
The gun contained a magazine with five live rounds of Aguilla brand ammunition and police then arrested and charged Sutherland for the offenses of “Kept unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition”, “Attempted Robbery” and “Aggravated Assault”.
