Monday, November 2nd, 2015. Chrisbert Garcia Reporting: A press release from the People’s United Party (PUP) issued last week, announced that its leader, Francis Fonseca, had met with various church leaders who affirmed their support for Wednesday’s general elections.
The release states that Fonseca and church leaders discussed issues of concern such as the state of the education system and the moral and spiritual direction of the society. It further stated that the PUP pledges commitment and solidarity with the church representatives for a renewed focus on and revitalization of the church state partnership in education.
It ends by stating that the PUP wholly endorses and supports the appeal by Pope Francis to welcome and serve others with mercy, love, gentleness and compassion.
The church then also issued a release, which basically announced its meeting with Fonseca and encouraged Christians to vote for the PUP on Wednesday.
One particular sentence of that release condemned the current government, stating: “Over the past eight years, we have been in a struggle for the soul of our nation, we have fought and witnessed in utter disbelief as our nation’s sovereignty and Christian foundation continues to be eclipsed by a global secular agenda.”
It ends by stating and we quote, “Christians raise your voice, Raise your vote!”
We note that this release from the church has upset many persons who have taken to Facebook to voice their concerns and disapproval for the church’s involvement in politics and persuasion to vote for a particular party.
