Monday, November 23, 2015. Orange Walk Bureau Reporting: Orange walk police have detained a Guatemalan woman after allegations of human trafficking were reported.
According to authorities, on Saturday, acting on information received, the department’s Quick Response Team visited Dominguez Bar located at Otro Benque Road, Orange Walk town where they found three women.
They were identified as Rosa Anita Garcia, a 33-year-old Guatemalan National, owner of Dominguez Bar and two Guatemalan Adult females from Poptun village in Petén, Guatemala.
Both females reported to police that on the 12th of November they were brought to Belize by Garcia under the pretense that they were going to be employed in a fast food place.
According to the women, since their arrival in the country they were taken to Dominguez Bar where they were forced to sell beer and drink with clients. One of the females reported to police that she was forced on two occasions by Garcia to have sex with strangers and when she refused, Garcia threatened to kill her two children and her mother who are in Guatemala.
The complainants further report that they have not received a cent from Garcia from the time they arrived in Belize. The women further reported that Garcia kept them locked up in the establishment. Garcia has since been detained pending investigation for Trafficking in Persons in Belize and Guatemala.
