Sunday, November 29, 2015. Victor Castillo Sr. Reporting: Belizeans were shocked and saddened yesterday as word spread on social media that three teenage females were trapped in and died in an inferno at the Princess Royal Youth Hostel, located at mile 21 on the George Price Highway, in the Rockville Village of Belize District.
According to information gathered by BMG reporter Victor Castillo, personnel of the Hattieville Police Sub-station first responded to the area where they observed that a green wooden building was engulfed in flames on the compound.
Initial investigations have revealed that a little after 2:00 p.m., the three females were inside the building, which is used as the female quarters, when one of them allegedly was playing with a lighter and lit a pillow on fire which got out of control leaving them inside trapped.
Efforts were made to break the door by workers at the facility but they couldn’t manage to open the door and free the girls.
It is alleged that the three victims that were trapped inside the building are 16-year-old Anna Melinda Carlos, 14-year-old Elizabeth Mckoy and 16-year-old Shadisha Alma Arnold. BMG was made to understand that the family members have been notified and are awaiting the postmortem to positively identify the bodies.
The charred remains, believed to be that of the said victims, have been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) morgue where it is expected that officers will properly identify the bodies.
