Monday, November 30, 2015.  Aaron Humes Reporting: Deputy Leader of the People’s United Party (PUP) has gone from a tentative “maybe” to a definite “no” on whether he will vie to become the next leader of the party. Julius Espat

Espat has told the Reporter newspaper that while he has been encouraged to run, he wants to concentrate his energies in the Cayo South constituency, won back-to-back in 2012 and November 4’s general election.

According to the two-term representative, his constituents deserve and will get more of his time as he fights their “really important” issues.

However, Espat remains committed to party unity and reorganization – and to whoever wants the leadership that can achieve both. With Espat now out, the listed contenders include former leader John Briceño, first-term representative in Caribbean Shores Kareem Musa; returning Lake Independence rep Cordel Hyde, and Senator Lisa Shoman, the first woman to offer herself for a leadership post.

Those interested have until December 15th to indicate to PUP Chairman, Henry Usher, their intention to run at a National Convention set for January 31st, at a place and time to be announced.
