Monday, November 30, 2015. BMG: Medina’s Construction Limited will build and International Environments Limited will design the new Belize City Center Arena and Cultural Complex to be located at the former site of the “Civic” on Central American Boulevard. The total cost of the contract is BZ$32, 940,261.34 for 24 months, to include civil works on the grounds and purchase of FIBA certified equipment.
Belize Infrastructure Limited (BIL) is in charge and says the new building will qualify for international basketball events, with seating capacity of 4,000 for games and 5,000 for indoor entertainments for concerts, conventions and sporting events including boxing and volleyball.
The design includes individually numbered seats by rows; post game and media rooms, administration room and concession space; handicap accessibility, more parking among other things.
According to BIL, the inside is to have three interior practice basketball courts, a professional center court, performance space and other facilities, while the exterior design allows for multiple plazas to accommodate recreational sports and parks, including two (2) outdoor basketball courts, one (1) 5 on 5 soccer field, skateboard parks just to name a few.
It caters to hosting outdoor entertainments with Security features, Police and Ambulance Zones. The Government of Belize, through BIL, has committed to provide the residents of Belize City and the entire Country of Belize with an innovative, well equipped state-of-the-art Arena and Cultural Complex.
