By BMG Staff: Tunich Nah Consultancy owner Jose “Pepe” Garcia was in court today for failure to pay Social Security Board (SSB) contributions for his employees outside of the stated time period, 14 days from the end of the calendar month.
He pleaded guilty and was fined 500 dollars by Magistrate Carlon Mendoza. Garcia admitted to not paying in to SSB for the months of June, July, August and September of 2015, inclusive, in time.
Garcia, the husband of ex-PUP area representative for Belize Rural Central and attorney Dolores Balderamos Garcia, told the court that he has since pay all his Social Security contributions up to November of this year. He thus avoided having to pay the fine for each month missed.
Prosecutor for the Board, Desiree Daniels, said they first served Garcia with a summons on October 28, 2015, so he could appear in court on the matter, but this is not the first time they had to drag him to court for the offense.
Garcia’s business is located at Mile 6 and a half on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Garcia was given until January 22, 2016 to pay. If he defaults on payment he will serve 5 months.
