By Aaron Humes: This morning some 172 new police officers “passed out” at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan. Addressing them was Minister of National Security John Saldivar, who said it was a priority of his Government to grow the police force, whose number now reaches 2,000 countrywide.
According to Saldivar, a change in policing philosophy has produced mostly positive results, as community-based policing has brought the men behind the shield closer to the community
Except for murder, the Minister also noted during his address a reduction in major crimes of 260 in 2015 over 2014, however the number is still above 2,000.
