By Aaron Humes: This afternoon Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) Joy Grant and Comptroller of Customs Victor Recinos signed a memorandum of understanding intended to strengthen domestic cooperation in the fight against money laundering and terrorism.
The MOU is planned to facilitate the reporting of international transportation of currency and monetary instruments.
Under the agreement the FIU and Customs gain a greater number of potential sources of information to perform analytical and investigative functions.
However, it emphasizes a more efficient means of the required declarations and reports of movement of cash and financial instruments.
As part of the continued relationship between the two agencies, The FIU will tomorrow hand over four scanners to Customs to facilitate quicker transfer of information on financial movements.
The FIU plans similar memoranda with other Government departments.
