By BBN Staff: Over the weekend in Belize City, five teenagers were shot in three separate incidents and all had to be taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment. 
On Friday night around 7:00, police visited the hospital and saw 19-year-old Raheem Jaheem Bailey suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, as well as both thighs. Bailey told officers that only 10 minutes earlier, while at his home with a friend, a person he knew rode up on a bicycle, took out a gun from his pants waist and fired several shots in their direction, causing his injuries. One man has been detained and is pending charges.
A little over an hour later on that same night, around 8:10, police were called to an area near St. John Vianney Primary School where they saw a 17-year-old minor lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper back.
Initial investigation revealed that the minor was walking on Boots Crescent Street in the direction Rivero Street Extension when he was approached from behind by a man who fired several shots at him, causing his injury. Police have since charged 20-year-old Joseph Lopez for the offenses of ‘attempted murder’, ‘dangerous harm’ and ‘use of deadly means of harm’.
Then yesterday morning around 3:45, police again visited the hospital where they saw 19-year-old Wilbert Welch suffering from a gunshot wound to the left shoulder, along with 19-year-old Davone Gillett with gunshot wounds to the neck and left shoulder and 19-year-old Ladyville resident Chealsea Young, the only victim who is not a Belize City resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to the left hand.
Officers were told that the trio was walking on Newtown Barracks when they encountered three male persons standing around a white car, one of whom pulled out a gun and fired several shots in their direction, causing the injuries. It is believed that Welch was the intended target and three persons have since been detained pending investigations.
All five victims remain in stable conditions at the KHMH.
