By Chrisbert Garcia: In the wake of a grisly murder which took place in the Hopeville area of Punta Gorda (PG) Town on Saturday February 13, a local patties vendor, 48-year-old Roy Jones has been charged by police for the stabbing death of 69-year-old Thomas Paul Rockowski.
Jones was arrested at around 7:00 on Friday night, February 19, and his fate was sealed by statements from two eyewitnesses, his own common-law-wife and a friend of theirs, who saw Jones with the bloody knife inside Rockowski’s home after following him there.
The pair told PG Police that the murder was fuelled by jealousy since Jones’ common-law-wife was in a relationship with Rockowski and still took the elderly man as a father figure, even though they weren’t together anymore.
That night, according to the statements made by the pair, Jones left in a rage and headed straight to Rockowski’s home after arguing with his common-law-wife, accusing her of still having affairs with the now deceased man.
Seeing how angry Jones was when he left, the two decided to follow him and were shocked when they saw that he had already stabbed Rockowski multiple times and had blood on him.
Those statements were all police needed to put Jones behind bars, as he has already been locked away in central prison.
