By Victor Castillo Sr.: The Belize Coast Guard has suspended operations for the recovery of a drowned man in the New River after divers began to feel exhausted.
The Chief Operations Officer of the Coast Guard said he found it necessary to suspend at 3 this afternoon. Divers had been searching in the river for more than five hours.
The search resumes early tomorrow morning, Wednesday, at 6:00 a.m..
Breaking Belize News understands that sometime after 5:30 Monday evening three men were socializing on the banks of the New River when two decided to go for a swim. After 20 minutes the third friend noticed that his friends had not resurfaced and he immediately reported it to the police.
At around 10:38 this morning, the lifeless body of 21-year-old Carlos Reyes was retrieved from the New River in Orange Walk Town, by divers.
Police say a witness saw a crocodile around the area.
