Fishermen caught with endangered species out of season

By Aaron Humes:  Three fishermen, two Honduran nationals and one Belizean, were charged with fisheries offences when they appeared today before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza: 48 year old Belizean, Grevil Franklin Lara, and Honduran nationals, 37 year old Miguel Angel Miranda and 34 year old Marco Antonio Castillo Vasquez, following a bust by the Belize Coast Guard. Image may be NSFW.

Fisher men charged

They appeared in court today and pleaded guilty to the charges of illegal commercial fishing and not possessing a valid fishing license.

They were all fined $250 each, to be paid by April 8, in default 2 months in prison. Miranda and Vasquez were each fined $250 plus $5 court cost for engaging in illegal commercial fishing with the same penalty – a $250 fine or 2 months in prison.

Only Lara was allowed to go free. Miranda and Vasquez were detained because of their immigration status in Belize.
