By Dalila Ical: The three alleged drug traffickers caught in a police stakeout on Wednesday afternoon appeared in court on Thursday.
Michael Requena, 24, Alrick Smith, 30, both from Ladyville and Keith Patrick Flowers, 24, from Belize City appeared before Judge Marlene Moody on the charge of ‘drug trafficking’.
The trio plead “not guilty” and were granted bail of $20,000 dollars each.
They were also ordered to present themselves at the Belize City Queen Square Police Station every Friday until their next appearance in court, which is scheduled for May 3rd.
Attorney Dickie Bradley represented Requena and Smith while Flowers was not represented. Up until yesterday evening the men had not met bail.
The trio was arrested and charged after police set up a stakeout on Wednesday afternoon after receiving information. They were intercepted at the roundabout at northern entrance of Orange Walk Town. Requena was driving a gold Escalade accompanied by Flowers. Smith was driving a black Mercedes Benz.
The men and the vehicles were taken to the Orange Walk Police station where the Escalade and Benz were thoroughly searched. Inside the Escalade police found up to 11 parcels of weed that amounted to 16 pounds.
