By Beverly Vernon: Jerry Bruce Rhaburn was born in the small village of Flowers Bank in the Belize River Valley and raised in Burrell Boom where he attended Methodist Primary School.
Rhaburn use to work at DNA construction before he started to paddle Canoe. When he took it up he enjoyed it and that’s when he started paddling for different teams in Belize.
He had opportunities to leave the country several times to participate in different races. With all the experience Rhaburn has had, he’s become comfortable and confident in the Laruta Maya River Challenge.
His team is proudly sponsored by Koop Sheet Metal in the Cayo District. On March 7th the Laruta Maya race ended and the winners were team Koop Sheet Metal’s Jerry Rhaburn with teammates Jerry and Henner.
Rhaburn said the win came to them easy due to the strict training program they had and their plan paid off. Apart from paddling, Rhaburn is a boat captain at Discovery Expeditions.
His goal is to become an entrepreneur and deal with inland tours and also train the younger generation in paddling. Rhaburn spends his free time fishing or just hanging with his family. His message to the youths is: “Set goals in life, work hard towards them, no distraction.”
