By Aaron Humes: Belizean paranda artist Clayton “C-Wills” Williams has swept five top awards at the Garifuna Music Awards held over the weekend in the Bronx, New York City, New York.
Williams’ debut album “Garifuna Nuguya” took top honors for Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Music Video. He shared the Producer of the Year award with punta rock producer Junie Mar, who has also worked with the Sweet Pain Band. He received eight nominations in total.
Garifuna Afro-Latino Entertainment hosted the awards, which were voted on online after nominations were determined by a committee from public submissions.
Williams a Hopkins native says he speaks to ordinary, day-to-day living. He counts Andy Palacio, Paul Nabor and Lloyd Augustine among his heroes.
Williams is planning an international tour as well as a local school tour later this year.
