By Aaron Humes: For want of prosecution, five Belize City residents including a female teenager freed1saw charges of burglary dating back to June of 2015 dropped this morning.

Released are 30 year old Brandon Errol Smith, aka “Battery;” 30 year old Devon Delon Smith, a Security Officer; 29 year old  Leon Lee Smith, unemployed and brother to Devon; 22 year old Ignatius Williams; and his girlfriend, 18 year old Anika Rivero, who at the time of the allegations was only 17.

When police attempted to serve a summons to testify in court to Margaret Flowers, then of Mile 1 1/2 on the George Price Highway, they could not locate her. It appears she changed her residence and did not inform the police of her freednew address.

Williams had seen his bail revoked on unrelated charges for which he violate certain conditions; but he can be free again once he meets a  2 thousand dollar bail set by Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. The group was accused of breaking into the old home of Flowers on June 1, 2015, and removing over ten thousand dollars in household items.

Meanwhile, Brandon Smith told our court reporter that he wants Police to return his impounded silver Saturn view vehicle that he alleges police had taken away since an allege shooting  incident involving he and his younger brother, 27 year old Kareem Smith back in late January of this year.freed2

The Smith brothers were detained over a reported aggravated assault with a firearm upon Corey Sebastian which is alleged to have occurred on Sunday, January 24, 2016. However, only Kareem was charged, and Brandon denies the police’s account of events.

Police took pictures of the vehicle and brushed it for fingerprints, but Smith wants to know why police have yet to return it if, as he believes, it was not part of the crime, and held his girlfriend for a full day when she went to inquire into it.

Kareem Smith was shot in the back, chest and both hands by a man whose name police has not revealed, a businessman who has shot and killed a man before in self-defence.freed3
