By Aaron Humes: 24 year old Jamel Webster, a soldier of the Belize Defence Force assigned to the Belize Special Assignment Group (BSAG), saw a charge of burglary withdrawn for insufficient evidence today.
However, he can be re-arrested and charged with the same offence.
Webster is accused of removing a 9-millimeter Beretta pistol, property of the BDF, from the BSAG offices at Price Barracks, Ladyville, on April 30, 2015. He pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to stand trial today.
However, the Police prosecutor elected to withdraw the charge, citing insufficient evidence at this time. When that evidence becomes sufficient, Webster would be re-arrested and re-charged.
Webster reserved comment until he spoke with his attorney.
