By Dalila Ical: A woman from Crooked Tree is claiming that the Northern Regional Hospital (NRH) lost her baby after she miscarried last Friday.
The woman, 22-year-old Shamika Flowers, spoke to the press and said that she arrived at the NRH last Friday seeking medical attention as she was feeling ill. Flowers was 19 weeks pregnant with her first child, who she had learned was a boy. Her pregnancy was high risk and due to complications she lost her child.
When she returned to the hospital today, Flowers says the hospital staff could not find her baby. When she and her mother approached the hospital administration, they were told that the hospital was sorry about the incident but could not do more and offered instead to pay for all funeral costs.
Flowers says she does not want monetary assistance as she has covered all costs and prepared everything to lay her child to rest.
The family said they are considering taking legal action against the NRH. When BBN contacted Flowers late today she said she would not comment further as she needs to consult her attorney.
