By BBN Staff: Cordel Hyde has been appointed as the new People’s United Party (PUP) deputy leader, but his appointment is just a small part of a larger shake-up in the party at the behest of party leader John Briceno.
Hyde was introduced as the party’s new deputy leader at a National Executive meeting yesterday at Independence Hall.
Apart from Hyde’s promotion to deputy party leader, Treasurer Monchie Cervantez, Legal Advisor Anthony Sylvester and several others are being purged and replaced with Briceno loyalists.
Cervantes told the media yesterday that Briceno has asked him to step aside and make way for Chris Coye as the party’s new treasurer. He noted that he was constitutionally elected by the national executive and he doesn’t believe he can be forcibly removed from his current post.
PUP Chairman Henry Usher, however, later indicated that the decision has already been made and Coye will now be acting as the party’s treasurer.
Andrew Mashalleck will replace Sylvester as the party’s legal advisor. Eamon Courtenay has also been brought in as the party’s National Development Strategic Director.
Reports are that Dan Silva, Kevin Bernard, Servulo Baeza, Jaime Briceno and Windy Castillo will also fill executive posts. The entire new executive lineup will be presented at a National Party Council in three weeks.
