By Aaron Humes: Despite its last competitive match coming at the end of August 2015, Belize’s national football team has achieved its all-time best ranking in the monthly FIFA World Ranking of association football. They are now ranked 114th.
Belize moved up five ranks from its previous position.
The Jaguars earned a 1-1 draw with Canada in the third round of World Cup regional qualifying at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan after losing 3-0 in the first leg in Toronto.
Previously they had earned a pair of draws with Cayman Islands and victories over the Dominican Republic.
Belize still trails all its Central American rivals, including new top 25 team Costa Rica.
Topping the table are 2014 FIFA World Cup runners-up Argentina.
A total of 171 games have been taken into account for the April edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, which includes 51 qualifiers for Russia 2018, 60 continental qualifiers and 60 international friendlies.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on May 5th, 2016.
