By Aaron Humes: Franco Audinett, a 37 year old bus driver from Hattieville, Belize District, has been arraigned for manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, and driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention.
On March 18, Audinett is accused of negligently driving a Blue Bird passenger bus belonging to Shaw’s Bus Line from Cayo that struck and killed 33 year old Jason Robinson, also of Hattieville, between Miles 16 and 17 on the George Price Highway.
The bus ran over Robinson and his bicycle, mangling his body and crushing the bike and killing Robinson instantly. According to police, Audinett said the area was not well lit and he did not see Robinson until he was about five feet in front of him.
The driver said he swerved in order to avoid hitting Robinson but could not avoid him. Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer released Audinett on bail of $5,000 without objection. He returns to court on June 10, 2016.
