By Aaron Humes: Many store owners in Belize City say they are losing business because of the 9p.m. lockdown of businesses imposed by Officer Commanding Eastern Division South, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams in the wake of the killing of Gerald “Shiny” Tillett.
On Wednesday during the weekly Meet and Greet we asked Williams about it.
Williams explained that it is a matter of enforcing the regulations on the books and that operators will have to meet the requirements on the books for their license or downgrade, though the City Council may have to take the loss.
ACP Williams also noted that there is a similar problem with Chinese and other shops masquerading as restaurants. The Police, said Williams, are taking the matter in hand because of the challenges they face policing so many stores.
