Masked gunmen injure woman in San Pedro shooting

By Horace Palacio: A 22-year-old woman from Orange Walk Town was shot in the legs during an attack by three masked men in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro Town on Saturday night.

The victim, Zulmy Camara, was sitting in the yard of her apartment with her common-law husband and three other men when the assailants approached the fence and opened fire. Camara was hit twice, once in each leg, before the attackers fled the scene by boat.

Camara’s husband, Jose Quiroz, pursued the gunmen in his own boat but was unable to catch them. Camara was treated at the San Pedro Polyclinic and released in stable condition. Her injuries have been classified as wounding.

Police have visited the scene of the crime and are continuing their investigation. Statements from witnesses are yet to be recorded, and security camera footage is being reviewed. No suspects have been identified or arrested at this time.
