By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Guinea Grass’ Mi Gente captured the Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) 1^st Division Closing Championship on a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Pumas at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk on Sunday, June 2.

Mi Gente gained the OWFA’s second ticket to the upcoming National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) organized by the Football Federation of Belize. Yo Creek United won the other berth in February when they defeated Palmar 2-1 in the Opening Championship Final.

Mi Gente won a $2000 prize while subchampions San Jose Pumas won $1000.

The OWFA issued the following individual awards:

MVP and Best Midfielder – Keizer Rodney – Mi Gente FC

Best Goalkeeper – Richard Rodriquez – San Jose Pumas FC

Best Defender – Eldo Ramirez – Mi Gente FC

Best Forward – Miguel Yco – Mi Gente FC

The OWFA said for the first time, four goalscorers tied for the Top Goalscorer award after scoring five goals each during the regular season:

Ian Chi – Palmar FC

Aldair Chan – San Estevan Soccer Team FC

Edimir Carrillo – Yo Creek United FC

Axel Alamilla – Yo Creek United FC
