Belize Football Federation to discipline players after last-minute withdrawal

By Horace Palacio: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) announced disciplinary action against three national team players who withdrew from a match against Nicaragua just hours before kickoff, citing contractual differences.

The players, Michael Salazar, Nanah Mensah, and Deshown Nembhard, had been training with the team for over a week. The FFB expressed disappointment in the timing and manner of their decision, which significantly impacted the team’s performance.

“The sudden withdrawal of these three players, two of whom were part of the starting eleven, necessitated critical last-minute changes by the coaching staff,” the FFB said in a statement. “Despite this setback, the coaching team and remaining players rallied to make the necessary adjustments and remained focused on delivering their best performance for Belize.”

The FFB has referred the matter to its Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for review and will also forward a transcript of the details to CONCACAF, the regional governing body for football.

The Belize national team is scheduled to depart for Barbados today for their next match against Guyana. The FFB remains committed to supporting the team and resolving any underlying issues to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
