Gunfire erupts on Rivero Street: Man injured in targeted attack

By Horace Palacio: A man is currently hospitalized after a shooting incident on Rivero Street in Belize City early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a call from their control room at approximately 12:00 AM on June 9th, 2024, reporting gunshots on Rivero Street. Upon arrival at #13 Rivero Street, officers found 28-year-old Jeffrey Brown, a local laborer, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Initial investigations suggest that Brown was standing alone in the yard of his residence when multiple shots were fired from a nearby bushy lot. He was immediately transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment. His condition remains unknown at this time.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. A thorough canvass of the scene revealed several bullet holes at the back of Brown’s house, but no expended shells were found in the surrounding area.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
