By Horace Palacio: The Belize Maya Forest Trust (BMFT) has released a statement expressing its profound gratitude to all those who have contributed to fighting one of the worst fire seasons in Belize’s history. The organization specifically recognized the tireless efforts of its protection team, neighboring communities, and partner organizations, emphasizing their instrumental role in mitigating the damage caused by the fires.

The BMFT extended special thanks to Gallon Jug and Sylvester Village neighbors, Spanish Lookout Community neighbors, CWC-Belize: Ix Jaguar Project, Savanna Field Station team, and Belize Bird Rescue for their invaluable assistance. The organization also praised the dedication and love for the Belize Maya Forest shown by its rangers, who tirelessly battled and contained multiple fires for over eight weeks.

In addition, the BMFT acknowledged the contributions of all other non-government and community-based organizations, along with community and government firefighters who have been on the front lines this year.

The fires have had a devastating impact on the forests, human health, property, and livelihoods throughout Belize. However, the BMFT remains hopeful for the future due to the resilience and dedication demonstrated by those involved in the firefighting efforts.
