Government of Belize and Unions sign Collective Bargaining Agreement

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On June 12, 2024, following years of deliberations, a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) was signed between the Government of Belize, the Public Service Union, the Belize National Teachers Union, and the Association of Public Service Senior Managers.

The CBA calls on the Government to provide timely and adequate levels of salaries for employees and provide appropriate benefits and incentives as a part of an enabling and more productive work environment.

Additionally, as a part of the agreement, Government has committed to the demands of Proposal 22.

This proposal ensures that the Government will pay the full salaries and service benefits of all grant-aided secondary and tertiary level educational institutions in Belize.

Therefore, teachers and administrators will benefit from a full pension, allowances, and service benefits, while support staff will receive full-service benefits.

“The signing is a testament to the Government’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the unions,” the Government noted.

Prime Minister John Briceno reiterated his administrations’ commitment to a cordial relationship with all unions representing our public officers at varying levels and categories.
