By Breaking Belize News Staff: A tapir was reportedly knocked down and killed near Maya Center Village in Southern Belize.
Rushing to the scene, Rafael Choc, Assistant Tourism Officer of the Belize Audubon Society, spearheaded a collaborative effort alongside Maya Center police, traffic officers, Lowen’s Hardware personnel, and Ministry of Works officials to remove the tapir.
The team swiftly removed the tapir from the roadside and laid it to rest.
Tapirs symbolize Belize’s natural heritage and biodiversity, making the loss a poignant reminder of the threats wildlife faces, especially from road traffic.
