Boston Celtics clinch 18th NBA Championship in Game 5 over Dallas Mavericks

Celtics win Game 5 106-88, win Final Series 4-1

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Boston Celtics captured their 18^th National Basketball Association (NBA) Championship winning Game Five of the Final Series 106-88 over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night at the TD Garden in Boston.

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 31 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds.

The Celtics are now the winningest NBA team breaking a 17-17 tie with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Celtics had last claimed the Larry O’Brien Trophy 16 years ago in 2008.

Jaylen Brown, who tallied 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, was named NBA Finals MVP.

Jrue Holiday added 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Luca Doncic led Dallas with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Kyrie Irving chipped in 15 points.

After winning the first three games 107-89, 105-98, 106-99, Dallas averted a sweep as they beat the Celtics by 38 points (122-84) in Game  4.

But on Monday night, the Celtics finished them off to finish the postseason with a 16-3 record and the entire season 80-21. That’s a .792 percentage, second only in NBA history to the Celtics team of the 1985-86 season that finished with a .820 percentage from an 82-18 record.
