By Horace Palacio: Belizeans are preparing for a day of wet and wild weather as moist and unstable conditions continue to affect the country. The National Meteorological Service has issued an Excessive Rainfall Warning for the Northern and Belize Districts, with the potential for flooding in these areas.
Residents are advised to monitor the situation closely and contact the Hydrology Unit for updates on flooding conditions. A Small Craft Warning is also in effect for offshore waters, which will be rough with strong gusty winds. Mariners are urged to seek safe harbor.
The forecast for the rest of the day calls for mostly cloudy to overcast skies with a few showers, thunderstorms, and periods of moderate to heavy rain. Activity is expected to increase throughout the day, particularly over northern and central parts of the country.
Temperatures along the coast will range from 84°F (29°C) to 78°F (26°C), while inland areas will see highs of 86°F (30°C) and lows of 73°F (23°C). In the hills, temperatures will be cooler, ranging from 72°F (22°C) to 68°F (20°C).
The outlook for Friday morning and night predicts continued periods of moderate to heavy rain with a few showers and thunderstorms, mainly over northern and central parts of the country. Elsewhere, activity will become more isolated by Friday afternoon.
Forecaster Crystal Rosalez at the National Meteorological Service has urged residents to take precautions and stay safe during this period of inclement weather.
