First named storm of 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season makes landfall in Mexico

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Early this morning, Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season made landfall in Mexico.

As of this morning, Alberto was about 25 miles into the country’s interior, traveling west at 13 mph from the city of Tampico.

Sustained winds are near 45mph and heavy rainfall is expected across northeast Mexico.

Weather experts say that as Alberto moves inland, it is expected to weaken.

Schools were closed across Tamaulipas state where Alberto came ashore and would be through Friday.

Shelters were also prepared across the state to receive residents trying to escape high water.
