By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Serbia managed an agonizing but exhilarating last-second 1-1 draw against Slovenia in stoppage time against Slovenia at the Munich Football Arena in Munich in the UEFA European Championship (EURO2024).
Luka Jović headed the latest equalizing regulation goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time after his team trailed 1-0 and seemed headed to a woeful Euro 2024 having lost their first game 1-0 to England last Sunday. But instead of bowing out, Serbia, having gained their first point, are still alive with one game remaining.
Žan Karničnik had given Slovenia the lead in the 69th minute and they came so close to recording their first victory ever at the Euros.
Had they been able to maintain the 1-0 lead to the end, Slovenia would have taken over the Group C lead with four points (at least momentarily), but the draw limits them to two points. They are also still alive but with two points, qualifying to the next round will be more difficult.
The draw paved the way for England to win the group if they beat Denmark in the next game scheduled for 10:00 am on Thursday.
The final game of the day will feature a superb match Spain against Italy at 1:00 pm. Both won their first game and are leading Group B. A win today gives them their ticket to the Round of 16.
