Defence Force says soldiers’ salaries will not be adjusted until financial review is complete

By Aaron Humes: The Belize Defence Force (BDF), in a press statement, insists that no soldier’s salary will be adjusted until the completion of a multiple Ministry-based assessment of current payscales.

The exercise is being led by the Job Classification and Compensation Unit of the Ministry of the Public Service, supported by the Ministries of Finance and National Defence and Border Security.

The reassessment considers rank, years of service, and job specification, with further review by the Ministry of Finance.

New payscales and new allowances such as for jungle and maritime work and specialists will be created.

Colonel Ricardo Leal, Chief of Staff, reiterates that the Force will keep its members informed and supported moving forward.
