By Aaron Humes: The Cabinet has approved a request by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to enter an Air Services Agreement with the fellow Central American state of Panama.
Panama’s Tocumen International Airport is one of the busiest in the region and the hub of COPA Airlines, which flies to many destinations including Belize’s Philip Goldson International Airport. It has been under fire recently for use by alleged illegal immigrants from the Caribbean and South America as a gateway to Mexico and the United States.
Belize and Panama aim through this agreement to facilitate greater market access, promote economic growth, and facilitate and regulate air transport between the countries, which are respectively the northernmost and southernmost points of the Central American isthmus.
