By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Sabrina Eiley, captain of the Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) said the training cycles at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, in preparation for the two friendly international matches against Bermuda next week, ‘going great’.
“Intensity of training has been high as we prepare for our matches,” Eiley told Breaking Belize News.
“The team has been doing an exceptional job since Gold Cup Qualifiers last year and we want to keep at it so that we continue to get the support from the public.”
In 2023, Belize topped Group A of CONCACAF League C, and advanced to CONCACAF League B after a perfect 6-0 run over Aruba, Bonaire, and Turks and Caicos Islands, beating them twice each. Eight BWNT players made the CONCACAF Best XI throughout the three months the competition lasted from September to November. Defender Mikhaila Bowden was voted to the Concacaf Best XI in the three consecutive months.
On Wednesday, the BWNT completed their second three-day training cycle prior to the upcoming international friendly matches against Bermuda and Cuba. According to the Football Federation of Belize (FFB), the BWNT will be playing four matches in preparation for the Concacaf Women’s Nations League. The BWNT will play two matches against Bermuda in Belmopan next week and will play two more against Cuba in Havana in August.
The first match against Bermuda will be played at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan next Thursday, July 11 at 7:00 pm. Three days later, Sunday, July 14, they meet again at the same venue at 4:00 pm.
The BWNT will Cuba in mid-August in Havana. The first match against the Cuba Women’s National Team is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 15, at the Estadio Pedro Marrero. The final preparation match will be on Sunday, August 18 at the same venue at 4:00 pm.
The BWNT will report to the FFB Headquarters on Monday, July 8 for the third training cycle prior to the two Bermudas games and will remain in camp until Sunday, July 14 after the match.
Prior to the Cuba matches, the BWNT will have a fourth training cycle from August 9-12.
