By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Toledo District’s Legends FC defeated Belize City’s Tut Bay 3-2 on Sunday in Game One of the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) Round of 16 on a wet and mucky pitch at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City

Both teams were unable to play the match the previous week due to rain. They decided to go ahead with their game on Sunday despite the Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB) announcement last Wednesday that all weekend  games would be postponed due to the approach of Hurricane Beryl.

Jaheim Mena led Legends with a hat trick.

Calvin Thurton responded with a brace for Tut Bay.

Tut Bay were missing four starting players who were serving red card suspensions from their previous encounter. They are hoping that with their return they can overturn the negative score when they play their return match in Punta Gorda this coming weekend.

Legends don’t want to hear any of that and aim to repeat their Belize City performance at home.

In another match played on the weekend, MidSouths’s Garage FC defeated Orange Walk’s Mi Gente of Guinea Grass 3-2 on Saturday at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence. The Orange Walk side advanced to the Quarterfinals on an aggregate score of 6-5 by virtue of having won Game One 4-2 the previous week in Orange Walk.

Ahead of the coming weekend, the other Belize City side, Caesar Ridge FC, have scheduled their Game One against Napoles of Belmopan for Thursday at 6:00 pm at the Marion Jones.

The FFB is expected to announce the schedule for the remaining games later this week.
