UEFA Euro 2024: England win 2-1 thriller over Netherlands, will face Spain in Final

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Ollie Watkins scored a superb goal in the first minute of stoppage time to buy England a ticket to the UEFA European Championship (EURO2024) Final with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands at the BVB Stadion Dortmund in Dortmund on Wednesday, July 10.

England qualified to their second consecutive Euro final and second ever final on foreign soil. They will now face Spain who eliminated France 2-1 in a throbbing match on Tuesday.

The Netherlands jumped England in the seventh minute when Xavi Simons shook the net.

England stepped on the pedal tying the match in the 18^th minute on a penalty kick by captain Harry Kane, who had been fouled in the penalty box.

When everyone figured the game was going into extra time, Watkins hammered in the winner that sent England, who’ve had a rather challenging tournament, to the big dance.

“Unbelievable – I’ve been waiting for that moment for weeks,” Watkins, who had entered the game as a substitute, said after the semifinal match.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work to get to where I am today. I got the opportunity and took it with both hands.”

England will face Spain, who have been firing on all cylinders after winning six straight games, in the Final on Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Olympiastadion Berlin in Berlin.

The Olympiastadion Berlin, which has a capacity of 71,000, hosted the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final and the 2015 UEFA Champions League Final.
