International News: Attorney claims El Chapo’s son did not kidnap Drug Lord Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Attorney for Joaquin Guzman Lopez, son of imprisoned Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, rejected allegations that Guzman Lopez had kidnapped the notorious drug lord Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, Reuters report.

The statement comes after reports surfaced suggesting that Guzman Lopez had betrayed Zambada to U.S. authorities.

Guzman Lopez and Zambada, a key figure in Mexican drug trafficking history, were arrested last week by U.S. agents when their plane landed at a small airstrip in New Mexico.

The arrests, which occurred without the Mexican government’s prior knowledge, have sparked widespread speculation about the circumstances surrounding their detainment. Some theories suggest Guzman Lopez may have lured Zambada into a trap.

“A kidnapping is out of the question,” asserted Jose Luis Gonzalez, the Guzman family lawyer, during an interview with Radio Formula.

“No, no. Los Chapitos abide by their father’s rules and they followed the usual policy,” he added, when asked whether Guzman Lopez may have betrayed the 76-year-old Zambada, who co-founded the Sinaloa Cartel.

Contradicting Gonzalez’s statements, Frank Perez, Zambada’s lawyer, claimed that Guzman Lopez, along with 6 armed men, ambushed Zambada near Culiacan, Sinaloa, and forcibly transported him to the United States.

Both Guzman Lopez and Zambada have entered not guilty pleas to drug trafficking charges in U.S. courts.
