By Aaron Humes: Driver for the Ombudsman’s office Arthur Williams will be tried in November in relation to alleged contempt of a judicial order.
Williams was charged in July and given full disclosure today, where the Senior Magistrate informed that he will face trial on November 26.
The prosecutor handed over to Williams 12 pages of disclosure and a DVD for which he signed.
The Senior Magistrate also informed Williams of his right to obtain an attorney to represent him, though he insists on representing himself as the case is “straightforward.”
On Wednesday, July 3, Williams was read a single charge of contempt of judicial order. He is accused of disobeying a court order that, between the period of April and end of June 2024, he was not to post anything on or about Commissioner of Police Chester Williams or the Belize Police Department on social media.
Williams was first arraigned on February 7 on three criminal charges: two counts of using a computer system to disseminate a false statement with the intent to cause another person to be subject to public ridicule or embarrassment; and one count of using a computer system to intimidate a person, under the 2020 Cyber-crime Act.
He pleaded not guilty to all three charges and is out on bail of $10,000 plus one surety of the same amount or two sureties of $5,000. He has not yet faced trial on these charges.
