By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Regular season leaders Corozal Elite were shocked 3-2 by the homestanding Cattle Landing Dolphins on Saturday, September 7, in the return leg of the Women’s National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (WNAIC) semifinals at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda. However, the regular season leaders prevailed 4-3 on aggregate after their 2-0 victory at Louisiana Football Field the previous week.
Roshany Narváez opened the scoring for Corozal Elite in the 54th minute, but Cattle Landing responded immediately two minutes later with a goal by Jessi McLaughlin. They went ahead in the 58th minute with a strike by Tori Chaplin.
Corozal Elite leveled the score in the 81st minute when Kaite Jones tied the match at 2-2. But Cattle Landing sealed the win in injury time in the 90’+3. The 3-2 score was a tad too short as Corozal Elite advanced to the final on the 4-3 aggregate. However, the triumph was a great accomplishment for the Cattle Landing Dolphins, who had finished the regular season in fourth place.
Corozal Elite will now clash with Red Bank Scarlet Girls in the final. Red Bank qualified with a 2-0 win over Las Flores, whom they had beaten 1-0 the previous week.
