Motorcyclist killed in collision on Hopkins Road

By Aaron Humes: One resident of Hopkins, Stann Creek District, is dead, and another is in treatment following a tragic traffic accident late on Saturday night near Savannah View Restaurant and Uno Gas Station on Hopkins Road entering the village.

Just before midnight on Saturday, responding police found a Saturn SUV parked on the left side of the road with damages to its front end. Across the road, officers discovered a heavily damaged red and black motorcycle lying in a roadside drain. The motorcycle had no license plate and appeared to have been struck by the SUV.

The two individuals injured in the crash were rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital for treatment. They are identified as Amand Arana and Tkeejan Martinez respectively.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the SUV was traveling west to east when his vehicle collided with the motorcycle, which was attempting to make a left turn into the compound of Savannah View Restaurant. A urine sample was obtained from the driver of the SUV.

Arana succumbed to his injuries earlier this morning. The investigation continues.
