By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) weekend’s fixtures will conclude with a highly anticipated match between historic rivals Wagiya Sporting Club and Verdes FC at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 4:00 pm.
Wagiya and Verdes are the oldest clubs in Belize, with a rivalry that dates back to the mid-eighties. Despite their contrasting fortunes in recent years, their encounters remain some of the most entertaining and fiercely contested in the league.
Verdes FC, currently in third place with nine points, are eager to bounce back from recent setbacks and close the gap on league leaders Progresso. They are also looking to leapfrog over champions Port Layola, who stumbled against San Pedro Pirates on Saturday. A victory against Wagiya would be crucial for Verdes to stay in the race for the top spot.

On the other hand, Wagiya SC, sitting at the bottom of the table with just one point, are desperate for a win to kickstart their campaign. They will need to put up a strong fight to secure their first victory of the season and catch up with the fifth-place Bandits, who managed a surprising draw against Progresso.
As the PLB season closes the first set of second round fixtures, fans of both clubs are looking forward to this historic clash, hoping for an exhilarating match that will add another memorable chapter to the storied rivalry between Wagiya and Verdes.
